Serving with Excellence

Published: 2023

Romans 12:4-12 (NLT)

4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection,[a] and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.[b] 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

God’s Perspective

God is not just interested in the ‘What?’ in our service to Him, but also in the ‘How?’

So the Question Is?

How have you gone about your service to God?

-What is your overall commitment?

-Are you serving God with ALL that you’ve got, or are you just giving God the leftovers?

One Body, but Many Parts

Every Church has its own structure: You have your Senior Pastor, Pastors & Ministers, Departmental heads, Church Staff, Volunteers, Small group leaders, members, etc. These make up the Body of Christ!

-Each member of the body has a key role that they play of which if it is overlooked, the whole body suffers!

-As long as you are a Christian, it is guaranteed that you have a ‘Special function’ to perform.

Grace & Gifts for Doing Things WELL

Each person has a gift (both natural talents/abilities and spiritual gifts)
You MUST discover what they are…
-There is no point fitting a square peg into a round hole
-Don’t go through life without ever knowing what your gifts or talents are.

A Spirit of Excellence

God wants you to use your gifts for doing things WELL!

-We must have a “Spirit of Excellence” in all that we do from START to FINISH!

Do it WELL!

-It’s easy to get people to do things, but doing them well is where the challenge lies!

  • Take time to do things well
  • Don’t be in a hurry
  • Pay attention to details
  • Don’t be wasteful and/or nonchalant
  • Have a “Spirit of Excellence”

If God Has…Then…?

Rom 12:6-8

For whatever God has gifted you to do, it to the best of your Ability!

  • Ushering…
  • Protocol…
  • Hospitality/Care…
  • Prayer…
  • Children/Teens…
  • Sunday School…
  • Maintenance and clean-up…
  • Etc.

Keep it Real

Rom 12:9-12

  • Don’t serve in pretense
  • Do not emulate bad habits
  • Embrace good virtues
  • Show Sincere Love and Honor
  • Don’t be Lazy
  • Serve God Enthusiastically
  • Serve God in joyful hope
  • Keep on Praying

Workers Play a Significant Role

  • Church would not run effectively if there were no workers
  • The attitude of workers could affect the Church positively or negatively
  • Both the Pastors/Ministers and Church congregation need the workers to function properly

2 Peter 1:5-10

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
